Following the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster of 1986, overnight, 50,000 residents are evacuated from their homes.
Now, forty years later, while the war on Ukraine continues, three displaced families move from the ruins of Kyiv back into the exclusion zone, taking their chances in a place where the wildlife has thrived despite radioactive contamination.
As the community work together to rebuild the houses they once owned, the people of Krasnova must learn how to protect each other from man and beast, as well as the threat of eviction by the authorities.
Return to Chernobyl is a story about the will to survive, and how far people will go to escape the threat of death in war, versus living in a land that threatens the lives of future generations.
This is a novel, but the truth is real.
